Die New York Times hat einen ganz wunderbaren Artikel von Gary Shteyngart: „‘Out of My Mouth Comes Unimpeachable Manly Truth’ – What I learned from watching a week of Russian TV.“

Tiefschwarzer Humor in elegantem Englisch, übertrieben bis zur Groteske, aber zeitlos gültig (auch für die USA und Deutschland, das müsste dann nur ein wenig anders sein). Oblomow lässt grüßen. Ich habe Tränen gelacht. Zwischendurch besucht ihn noch sein „Psychiater“. Der Dialog gleitet vollends ins Absurde ab.

Über die Krim: „Think of it as a shabbier Fort Lauderdale with the occasional Chekhov statue.“ Am vierten Tag träumt er: „I am crawling through the snow in Kiev searching for my cellphone, which has been stolen by the neo-Nazi fascists. I find it by a wall defaced by a giant swastika, its screen shattered by the torch-bearing Ukrainians. ‚Allo, I say in Russian. ‚Someone please help me. It’s cold out here.'“

Absolute Leseempfehlung, auch wenn der Artikel sehr lang ist.

    Article is very long indeed – read it all – IMO just another piece of extremely extensive verbal diarrhea – shit! Waste of time! But maybe that’s the kind of „entertainment“ the NYT presents to its cosmopolitan readers nowadays. Never minding the heavily propagandistic tinge of the whole stuff it could well be I’m just not uptodate on the latest trends…

    „I live in Russia. In real Russia, not in Moscow. 25% of all is true but the other part is too childish. I don’t watch local news, I don’t believe anybody and I’m sure all the channels worldwide lie in the same style.“

    Wenn ich die Zeit hätte, könnte ich etwas Ähnliches auch über das deutschen TV schreiben.
