Workingclasshistory<\/a> auf Instagram (vgl. auch Socialist Alternative<\/a>): On this day, 12 April 1927, the Shanghai massacre began, with thousands of communists, workers, and students murdered or \u201cdisappeared\u201d by the nationalist Kuomintang<\/a> [har har] nationalist movement led by Chiang Kai-shek<\/a>. The Chinese Communist Party (CPC) and the Soviet Union, as well as some anarchists, had joined forces with the Kuomintang against domestic warlords and foreign imperial powers to try to unite and modernise China. The Soviet Union had also trained and armed Kuomintang soldiers.<\/i><\/p>\n

Over the following year, more than three hundred thousand people would be killed in the Kuomintang\u2019s anti-communist purges. Trade unions and strikes were banned.<\/i><\/p>\n
